Govt confirms outbreak of Lassa fever In Taraba State, 1 confirmed dead, 2 quarantined

Taraba State government has confirmed the outbreak of Lassa fever, a deadly viral disease, in the state. Lassa fever is transmitted by infected rodents. The state Commissioner of Health, Innocent Vakkai in an interview with journalists over the weekend said;


"One person died and two others quarantined and their blood samples have already been taken to Irrua Specialists Hospital in Edo State for further confirmation."
Speaking on how the viral disease is contacted, Vakkai said
"People usually get infected with the Lassa Virus after exposure to infected rodents, while person to person transmission occurs through direct contact with the sick person."
He said precautionary measures include putting food in rodent proof containers and wearing protections such as masks, gloves, gowns among others

He disclosed this in a letter dated August 4, addressed to the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha. He, however, did not state any reason for the resignation. Is Amina B. Zakari incharge of Inec Logistics?

In October, 2018 the Independent National Electoral Commission reshuffled chairmanship positions of 5 out of 15 of its committees. Amina Zakari was the then Chairman of Electoral operations and Logistics. As a result of this action she was given a new chairmanship position to head the Health and welfare committee. In January 2019, Amina was given a new role as the Chairman of the committee on collation centers.
